Prior to your child starting school please contact the school office so an appointment can be made for you and your child to meet with the Principal, to find out more about the school and have a tour.
At this appointment we will ask you to complete the enrolment form. Please bring your child's birth certificate or passport, immunisation details and any previous school reports.
You can download the enrolment form to print. They are also available from the school office.
‘Before your child starts school’ visits
Purpose: The aim for these visits is to get your child comfortable with starting school. At Kahurangi School we understand and realise that each child starts at a different point of preparedness and our hope is that visits set them up for a successful transition.
How these visits work: Following, is an outline of how these visits work, keeping in mind the needs of your child, you as parents, the needs of the other children in the class and also of the new entrant teacher.
We plan three visits, with the last visit being a longer one which includes your child staying for morning tea.
The first two visits are from 8.30am until 10.00am. We include time before the bell rings at 8:50am so Kathryn Dron our New Entrant Teacher can meet and talk with you before teaching and learning begins. We aim for this to be a usual school day which means she’s not likely to be available to stop and talk with you during the visit.
It is required that you stay at school when you child visits. We find it works best for you to stay in the class with them during the first visit, then popping in and out of the classroom during the second and third visits. We will then get an indication of how your child is settling. Occasionally a child takes longer to feel comfortable about you leaving them (and this is absolutely fine) so we are likely to suggest a few more visits before their start date.Booking in these visits: It’s your choice whether these three visits take place over 2-3 weeks or on three consecutive days. These visits can be booked by contacting Margaret Hudson our Office Manager (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please note that these visits won’t be booked until Kyran Smith our Principal has met with you and it is confirmed that your child is starting with us.

'Out of Zone' Ballot
The Board invites applications from "out of zone" parents who wish to enrol their child/children at Kahurangi School for next year.
Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme. Details are available from the school office or website. An enrolment form can be downloaded from the website, or email email@example.com.
The deadline for receipt of applications for out of zone places is 11 October 2017 at 5pm.
The Board has determined that five places are likely to be available for out of zone students next year. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications from students who live within the school's home zone. Applications from out of zone students will be processed according to the Ministry of Education guidelines.
If the number of out of zone applications exceed the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot is required it will be held on 16 October 2017. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
