Kahurangi School does not have a compulsory school uniform.

We want our tamariki to be comfortable, to be themselves, and to come to school ready to learn. Whānau are free to choose everyday clothing that suits their child and their family.

That said, we do ask that children come to school wearing clothing that is:

• Comfortable and practical for learning and play
• Suitable for active days in the playground and on the field
• Appropriate for a school environment
• Sensible for the weather, including warm layers in winter and sun protection in summer

We also ask that children wear suitablefootwear that is safe for running and playing.

Sun safety (important)

To help keep our tamariki safe in the Summer months, wearing a sunhat is compulsory in Terms 1 and 4 during break times.

Children who do not have a sunhat will be required to play in shaded areas during breaks.

Please name your child’s clothing

We strongly encourage whānau to clearly name clothing, especially:

• Hats
• Sweatshirts and hoodies
• Jackets and jerseys
• Any items your child is likely to take off during the day

In a school of over 270 children, it is very difficult to return unnamed items to their owner. Naming clothing makes a huge difference and helps us get lost items back to the right child.

Kahurangi School T-shirts and Hoodies (Optional)

While we don’t have a uniform, we do offer Kahurangi School T-shirts and hoodies as an optional purchase.

Many children and whānau like these for:

• School trips, sports and events
• Or simply as a way to show pride in our kura

These are not required, and there is absolutely no expectation that children own one.

How ordering works

We don’t hold stock of T-shirts or hoodies.

Instead, we:

• Open an ordering window once a year
• Let whānau know via the newsletter and school communication channels
• Place a bulk order once orders close
